I am Lenhart Tapes from Belgrade/Serbia and, as music experts say, the thing I do is a sophisticated and wild world-noise-ethno-industrial-folk zombie musical genre. I have been mostly known for my live, striking and unforgettable live performances, and now the time has come to go vinyl.

Here’s the plan: Duets is my first album to rely on pre-orders through Crowdify. I need cash to print it out on a high quality vinyl for your acoustic pleasure. My primary goal is to raise money to cover the cost of printing this vinyl. What's left is going to cover the expenses of cassette tape with two special tunes, T-shirts, and posters made by Igor Hofbauer, Bernharda Xilko and Johanna Marcadé-Mot.
I couldn’t do this alone. Duets will be released through partnership with Novo Doba & Pop Depresija, who are our incredible allies in releasing this album on vinyl.

One of the most important things when doing music is to choose the right tune. Some songs are better than others. The ones that aren’t good, aren’t on my album!
I started working on this material back in 2012 with the idea of incorporating live female folkie vocals into a bunch of cassette sampled noise I was doing back in the days. The result is a compilation of unpublished songs recorded between 2014-2018 and mixed in 2019.
Writing about music can be fun but it is always better to listen (to it). I have hand-picked 8 transnational tunes, sung by two acclaimed singers, Mirjana Raić and Svetlana Spajić, plus one Lenhart Tapes Orchestra. It was recorded in four different studios, edited and mixed by Igor Čubrilović, myself and Jovan “Shpira” Obradović. James Plotkin mastered it and Johanna Marcadé-Mot did the wonderful cover art and design.
There is a special treat for cassette lovers only during this promotion – a tape with a brand new design by Bernharda Xilko, featuring a never before published single Baresha, which I recorded back in 2016 with Zoja Borovčanin (singer of the band Lira Vega) as well as the fresh club remix of the same song by Serbian DJ and producer MKDSL.
The key to the best musical experience is in the listener’s internal extravaganza. And you can help to make it happen by joining this campaign and enjoy your vinyl!

Field recordings, rare folk music, spoken word and sound propaganda material, various musical genre albums – you name it, I probably have it. Before I ventured into my solo project, I was playing music in various underground music bands in Serbia. And then, in October 2010, Lenhart Tapes was born. Lenhart Tapes is a one-man-cassette-tape-manipula... and I have been touring and performing all over the map. Using walkmans as musical instruments, I do a live mix of selected material from my cassette collection on top of the original rhythmic loops.
Here is what Tristan Bath said about my music:
“(…)Lenhart stands behind a table with four old portable cassette players on it, and bursts into action, slamming cassettes into them, bashing play and stop buttons, and generally looking like he’s about to angrily smash everything in sight. Each ‘song’ basically consists of a looped 4/4 industrial rhythm, while randomly chosen middle-eastern chants and other madness bump and grind deafeningly on top. People actually try to dance! Saxophones blast out of one cassette, while free-form white noise spills out the other. Lenhart grabs a walkman, yanks it open and starts smudging and scraping the tape itself, twisting the Walkman’s innards to craft new strange sounds. There’s other sections that see him strangely manipulating the fast-forward function to locust-like effect. It’s a grand, shocking and utterly confusing bit of culture jamming – like the city of Belgrade herself (...)”

Turbo Comix is a Belgrade-based association run by the collective Matrijaršija (pronounced mah-tree-yar-shiya).
The activities that take place in the autonomous cultural center Matrijaršija since 2014 include work on its annual program (both exhibitions and performances), non-aligned comix festival Novo Doba, the artist-in-residence program, and non-stop activities in several of its studios and workshops: screen printing, graphics and music.
Matrijaršija is based on constant and fruitful collaborations with other collectives, artists and numerous friends and it represents a materialization of a much larger network of production that spreads across Belgrade, Serbia, the whole region, Europe and beyond.
