Project Overview

After a long search, we have found a new location for the women of Soufra Catering in the Burj el Barajneh refugee camp. For the purchase and renovation of the building we now need a total of 85'000 Swiss Francs. In addition to a larger kitchen, there is also space for a cafeteria, which will become the first meeting place for women in the camp. Please help us to offer the refugee women in Beirut the urgently needed perspective.

Funding goals

  1. Stage 1:

    30.000 CHF

    100% funded

The building costs a total of CHF 75,000. The large part of this amount has already been financed, 30,000 francs are still missing. I.e. with the first stage of crowdfunding we can completely finance the purchase.

  2. Stage 2:

    52.500 CHF

    100% funded

The cost of the renovation is estimated at the equivalent of about 45,000 francs.
To secure the renovation, we divide the renovation costs into two stages. So with 52,500 francs, half of the renovation is done.

  3. Stage 3:

    75.000 CHF

    100% funded

The second half of the renovation costs of CHF 45,000, which we have to raise in addition to the purchase of the house. Once we have reached this amount, the financing of the entire renovation is secured!

  4. Finish Stage:

    85.000 CHF

    100% funded

The building bought and renovated, only the interior finishing is missing. In cooperation with a Lebanese interior designer, the women of Soufra have drawn up a plan of what their future cafeteria should look like. The costs for the interior fittings amount to about 10,000 Swiss francs.

With the total amount of 85'000 Swiss Francs we can make the dream of Mariam and the whole Soufra team come true. Merci beaucoup for your support!

We have been hearing bad news from Beirut for months: First the ever-worsening economic crisis, then the pandemic that is hitting Lebanon hard, and most recently the devastating explosion in the capital's port. All of this has greatly destabilized Lebanon, protests are the order of the day, conflicts are escalating.
In the midst of this uncertainty, we are creating important perspectives: After a long search, we have found a new location for the women of Soufra Catering in the Burj el Barajneh refugee camp. In addition to a larger kitchen, there is also space for a cafeteria, which can become the first meeting place for women in the camp.

The house is very centrally located in the refugee camp and offers enough space. Various experts from Beirut have confirmed the potential of the location. However, like most of the houses in the camp, the building is in need of renovation.

This means that in addition to buying the house, we also have to cover the renovation costs. With crowdfunding and your support, we can do it!

The building with the new kitchen gives the women of Soufra Catering the opportunity to take on larger orders and offer more women work and income. The catering currently supplies many NGOs that support people in Beirut who are in acute existential need. Furthermore, the additionally planned cafeteria is the only place for women in the camp to meet outside their cramped apartments.

Soufra Catering and the cafeteria help to foster community in the refugee camp and significantly improve the living conditions of all residents.

The goal is for the women's catering and cafeteria to become self-sustaining after the initial phase.

Part of the financing for the purchase of the house has already been secured, the equivalent of 30,000 francs is still missing. The costs for the renovation are estimated at the equivalent of about 45,000 Swiss francs, and for the interior work of the cafeteria the cost estimate is another 10,000 Swiss francs.

We have graduated the stages according to urgency:
1st stage = remaining financing of house purchase
2nd stage = 50% of the renovation costs
3rd stage = 50% of the renovation costs
4th stage = interior finishing
Crowdfunding is an important milestone, but it is only the beginning of the project. With any surplus, we will continue to support the women in building up the cafeteria: be it with an operating subsidy or with the expansion of their own vegetable garden, as it already existed in the old location. There are many ideas!

Cuisine sans frontières invites to the table to resolve conflicts and foster community spirit. Cooking and eating together improves our quality of life: conversations take place, relationships are built and problems solved, thereby strengthening the foundations of every community. These everyday experiences form the base of Cuisine sans frontières’ activities.

Csf builds gastronomic meeting places and training facilities in areas of (social) conflict, always in cooperation with a local partnering organisation. Our goal is at all times to secure the long-term independent economic sustainability of the projects.

Cooking and eating together has the power to change the world for the better. The projects of Cuisine sans frontières have already shown this in some places, hopefully soon also in Lebanon!
