artifly pole dance studio is a place where you can fly like a bird set free! We're excited to be the first pole dance studio in the vibrant Kleinbasel area. We're devoted to strengthening this beautiful art form in the Basel community & to creating a professional, inclusive, creative & fun home that embraces people from all walks of life who wish to discover new artistic & acrobatic sides of themselves through dance, movement & exercise.

The costs for the studio's soundproofing approach CHF 15 000 - from the mandatory acoustic measurements to extensive soundproofing modifications to the space (panels, flooring, special plaster walls, masking of pipes... the list is huge).
With the CHF 7000 from this first stage I'll be able to cover the costs of the walls I had to modify and construct in order to successfully block any noise/sound emissions to the neighbouring offices.

Anything beyond the first stage of this campaign (every single Rappe!) will go towards covering the costs of the 2 soundproofing measurements that determined all the modifications I had to make, as well as the official report/certificate I needed to submit to Basel City's authorities to prove that the space has been sound-proofed within the required norms and laws. The measurements, and all remaining modifications (sound panels, pipe dressings, extra doors, etc.).
Furthermore, in order to submit this document and all the others, I had an additional compulsory expense of hiring an architect (1500.-)

As in the previous stage, this extra stage will help me cover costs related to the extensive soundproofing! It is by far the most costly setup expense for this studio.

If I manage to get the full target amount of 15k I will be able to cover:
- the full cost of soundproofing measurements
- almost all mandatory soundproofing modifications
There are so many costs involved in the renovations and admin process, but the soundproofing is by far the expense that has hit me the hardest on this journey. It would mean so much to me to have your help to carry these once-off costs.
I'm so grateful for any amount! Thank you so much! :)
artifly pole dance studio is a pole dance studio located in the vibrant Kleinbasel. With pole dance at its core, it's a space that celebrates movement and artistic expression for people from all walks of life, integrating in the space other forms of dance, aerial arts, and disciplines that compliment the beautiful art of pole.
artifly PDS aims to strengthen Basel's wonderful pole community by embodying the many pole dance styles rooted in sensual, lyrical, and acrobatic forms of movement & dance.
Furthermore, the studio is excited to be part of multiple projects and collaborations in the pipeline that will provide opportunities to individuals & organisations who work towards a more inclusion & accessibility in the pole community.
I'm Niek, a South African-Swiss pole dance instructor, artist, and the founder of artifly pole dance studio. Pole dance has been my biggest passion for the past 13 years. I started as a student in Cape Town back in 2011, became a certified instructor few years later and in 2016 moved to Brazil where I co-founded and co-owned my first pole dance studio (Pole House Studio) for 5 years.
In 2022 I moved back to quaint and international Basel, the little town where I was born. I could write an entire feature article here on how I tried for over a year to launch myself onto an alternative, "safe" career paths and distance myself from the idea of owning a big pole studio, but I'll save that for a future newsletter because the story is long and the plot twists are sharp. What I will say is that when I left Brazil my life felt like a never-ending thunderstorm of breakdowns and existential crises until a fateful day in late December 2022, after almost a year in Basel, when all the noise subsided. I knew what I had to do.
Pole dance has given my life meaning for the past 13 years, and I'm so grateful for having found not only an activity that fulfills me personally and professionally but one that allows me to have a positive and creative impact on the lives of so many other people. I have seen and lived the power of pole dance classes and how they can be an incredible ally in people's process of self-acceptance & self-discovery and also how it can hugely affect our self-esteem, sense of strength, sensuality, and quite frankly, conquering new senses of who we are in a world that works very hard to destroy our uniqueness. What fuels me is seeing my students fly - on the pole and how that spills over into other parts of their life, seeing them feel comfortable in their own skin, knowing just how capable they are.
I'm not sure about many things in my life, but about this studio, I am. I deeply love my job and I know the good this work does. I can't wait for this next chapter and to contribute to Basel's pole dance community by creating a beautiful space for art, connection, fun, passion, change & all the good things that come with a space where people can unapologetically be themselves.
Thank you so much for supporting this project!
