Project Overview
Caravan FELIZ is a humanitarian project for children and their families living and working on a public dump near Tegucigalpa in Honduras. Since 2017 Casa Girasol provides food for the people there and has even successfully crowdfunded 400 rainboots. Now it is time to enhance their lives with our bus project CARAVAN FELIZ. Enabling them a better future for kids and families! - BE part of our mission!

Stage 1:

With this amount, we can buy a second-hand bus in good condition. Previous donations (EUR 2000) are contributing to the cost.

For the repair and refurbishment of the bus, we need another 4050 EUR. The work will be carried out by volunteers and the artistically gifted Casa Girasol team.

This is the total sum we aquire in favor of buying/rennovating buy the bus, and most important to equip it with all necessary material. If we reach the amount the bus will be ready within a few weeks and the care of the children and young people on the dumping hill can begin!
In the garbage mountains between rats, dogs and flies children are in search of materials. It stinks. It's noisy. Around 500 to 600 people work there. Between 1,500 and 2,500 tonnes of waste is delivered daily. Domestic refuse is dumped alongside highly dangerous industrial and hospital waste. Injury is a common occurrence where diseases including hepatitis and helicobacter are easily spread. Despite a law that prohibits children from working here, they have no realistic choice- this is how they survive. Without financial resources, parents cannot afford to send their children to school.
With a school bus, we can ensure that these children have the opportunity to be children. With a little support, the bus can be equipped with arts and craft materials, books, instruments, and games.
Casagirasol's artistically gifted staff will teach and positively engage with the children and those around them. With extra resources, we can potentially bring a medical team on board to cater to their health needs.

The organization Casa Girasol is tax-exempt and recognized as a non-profit. Voluntary grants you 100% tax deduction in Switzerland. Tax authorities in other European countries may deviate from the deductibility of the donation. In any case, the donor receives a donation receipt at the beginning of 2020.

I am a student in Austria at the FH Kufstein. This year I got the possibility to do my apprenticeship abroad in Panama. After I had finished it, I traveled around Central America. I spent some time in Honduras and came there across the conditions at the garbage hill that the kids and families have to face every day. I have been there with CasaGirasol together this year in July. The impressions of the kids in combination with the garbage hill still deeply resonate with me.

Manager of Casa Girasol
As the manager of Casa Girasol in Honduras, I have been able to visit the children and adults on the dumping hill many times. I have met people in great need, but they have not given up the hope that their lives will improve at some point. I hope that with this bus we can lay the foundations for a permanent job in order to sustainably change the lives of the children through intensive personal care and support.
