Project Overview

NDOTO was created in February 2019. Its goal is to support the local partner, NDOTO NA MWANGA ELIMU in the construction of a primary school in the Massaï village of Oltepes. The main purpose of the association is to promote education for all, opening a new class every year, starting in January 2021.

Our Story

In 2016, a trip to Tanzania lead Niki and Nathan to meet with Augustino and Anthony. Improbable meeting, we exchanged numbers and decided to meet again in Moshi. That's when we learned the the two young men are Massaï. Very curious, we wanted to learn more and that's when they decided to invite us in there village.

After two hours on the tralis, we reached to village where we met the community during two very interesting days. During a discussion, the elders shared their desire to have a school. That's what lead to the creation of NDOTO a few years later.

How did we get from an idea to an association?

To start with, it's important to clarify that the idea of this project isn't coming from us but from the community in Oltepes. It's during a visit to the village that the elders shared their desire to have a school. After this, it took us a few years to learn, research and plan the school construction. Finally, in 2019, we decided to go back to stay a month with the community, taking the time to discover more about the culture. Coming back from this trip, we created the assocation NDOTO (Swahili for "dream") in Switzerland and started the creation of the Tanzanian NGO, NDOTO NA MWANGA ELIMU.

How do you work between Switzerland and Tanzania?

The project is built together. In Tanzania, NDOTO NA MWANGA ELIMU takes care of the implementation of the project as well as the promotion and fundraising for education in the village. The NGO works closely with the community to ensure the sustainability of the project. On the Swiss side, NDOTO works towards fundraising, project management and the training of our local partner.

What will this money be used for?

The money raised in this crowdfunding will aim at ensuring the opening of the school for January 2021 for the first class of 35 students.

Mainly, it will enable us to build one more building, install water and electricity equipement as well as buy school materials and furniture.

Who we are:

NDOTO Switzerland is an association of friends who want to make a difference. The members joined forces around the project to support a Massaï community to build a primary school.

As copresident, I am taking care of following the project in Tanzania on a weekly basis. Furthermore, I coordinate activities with the other members of the association in Switzerland.
