Meet Marcel the FIP Cat
Help Marcel get back on his feet with your donation
Project Overview
Marcel has FIP, an infectious disease that is fatal in cats if left untreated. Treatment and regular check-ups at the vet are very expensive, but this is Marcel's only chance of recovery. We're doing everything in our power to get the little senior cat back on his feet, but we're now faced with a financial challenge.
Four weeks ago, Marcel began to withdraw more and more and no longer took an active part in our lives. He crawled into our closet and only came to us for 10-20 minutes before withdrawing again. At the vet appointment on June 7, the vet suspected Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Thanks to the great support of FIP Cats Switzerland, I was able to start treatment the very next day.
Since then Marcel has been getting better every day. Now, when the fridge door opens, he is the first to sit in the kitchen.
FIP IS CURABLE!
Yes, FIP is now curable. In February 2019, Prof. Dr. Pedersen from UC Davis in California published the study "Efficacy and safety of the nucleoside analog GS-441524 for treatment of cats with naturally occurring feline infectious peritonitis".
Since the publication of this study, tens of thousands of cats have already been saved worldwide, and the number continues to rise. In German-speaking countries, several thousand cats have successfully undergone the therapy since 2019 and are healthy again.
As GS-441524 is currently only officially approved for research purposes, owners must obtain the drug themselves and administer it for at least 12 weeks. Vets support the therapy by carrying out the necessary check-ups.
- Medication: 700.-
- Food supplements: 200.-
- Upcoming visits to the vet (incl. blood tests): 900.-
- Reserve for possible extension of therapy: 700.
The remaining amount (incl. reserve, if not necessary) will be donated to the vet and to the SPA du Haut-Léman animal shelter to care for animals in need.
My role is to look after this little fur nose as well as possible and give her a decent and beautiful life.
I have already been able to buy the medication for the first 3 weeks. However, the rest of the therapy and the veterinary costs are far beyond my means, so I am dependent on your help. However, it was out of the question for me to put Marcel to sleep just because I didn't have the financial means. At the moment I'm cutting corners to help Marcel and I'm grateful for any support I can get.
