After six formative years in Zemun, Matrijaršija is relocating to a new space on the other side of Belgrade. The new home is a former bakery with lots of space for our dreams, but in need of some serious refurbishing. We ask you to participate in shaping the future of our collective’s autonomous cultural centre. In exchange for your support we offer our own production of fresh, eye-teasing prints by some of the most talented artists we know.
Matrijaršija is an autonomous cultural centre founded in a house in Zemun back in 2014, a merge of forces of two collectives (Mubareć and Novo Doba) and several informal groups and individuals. The common denominator is fringe art in all possible and impossible combinations. The perplex (non)structure of Matrijaršija includes the yearly Novo Doba festival, the monthly small publishers' fair Fijuk sajam, weekly workshops with youth with intellectual disabilities, occasional exhibitions, kafanas, concerts, parties and artist-in-residencies, and constant production in our printing workshop. Matrijaršija is family, work, production, recreation, history and future, growing slowly out of the womb to encompass everything. Matrijaršija is a safe place for your inner child to grow up and take his first steps. Matrijaršija is first and foremost a place, and now it is time to build a new home.
I am a French Belgrade-based screen printer, graphic designer, publisher and artist, and one of the founders of the cultural center Matrijaršija.
