St. Augustine Preparatory will build temporary classrooms to meet the requirements of the Kenyan education authorities while we continue to raise funds. These provisional spaces will allow to maintain school operations and move forward with the much-needed expansion. Once we have raised enough funds, they will work towards achieving the next two goals: purchasing the land and building an additional floor to provide more space and better learning conditions for the children.

They intend to use the funds raised as equity for the next crucial step in the school’s development. Their goal is to replace the temporary classrooms with a third floor added to the existing school building. To achieve this, we will apply for federal funding. However, we are required to contribute one-third of the total funding ourselves, which is why we rely on your support. Your donation will help to realize this much-needed expansion and sustainably improve the learning conditions for the children. Together, we can ensure that this school continues to provide a strong foundation for the future of the children in Ruiru.

Now that the school is large enough to meet the classroom requirements of the Kenyan education authorities, the next important step is purchasing the neighboring land, which is currently leased. They have a long-term lease agreement with an option to buy, and they are eager to exercise that option. Nairobi is growing rapidly, and land in the suburbs is becoming increasingly valuable and sought-after. By purchasing the land, they can ensure that the school will not be displaced from its location and will remain a stable institution for the children of Ruiru in the long term. The land on which the school building stands is already owned by St. Augustine Preparatory, and acquiring the adjacent property will allow them to further expand the school and secure its future. Your support during this fundraising phase will help to make this critical step a reality and ensure the school’s long-term stability.

We are almost there! In this final phase, we aim to support the school in providing the best possible education for the children. A key step in achieving this is strengthening the support for teachers. To further enhance the quality of education, we want to help the school integrate interns, including those from Germany. To do so, we will apply for the Weltwärts program, a German government initiative. This project could not only bring new inspiration to the local teachers but also mark the beginning of exchange programs in both directions. With your support in this final fundraising phase of €25,000, we can ensure that the school continues to develop not only its facilities but also its educational offerings, providing the children of Ruiru with a high-quality education. Help us take this decisive step toward a promising future!
We, at Shule ya Kesho e.V., support the St. Augustine Preparatory School in Ruiru, Nairobi, from Germany.
Since its founding in 2007, St. Augustine Preparatory has provided children and young people with affordable education and school meals. Over the years, it has become a place where children from low-income families come together to laugh, learn, and grow. To ensure this wonderful development continues, help us expand St. Augustine Preparatory into a School of the Future! Shule ya Kesho is Swahili for School of the Future.
We at Shule ya Kesho e.V. are a group of individuals based in Germany and Switzerland who have lived in Nairobi, Kenya. Through the German School Nairobi or as World Weltwärts volunteers, we came to know St. Augustine Preparatory and eventually formed the supporter association Shule ya Kesho e.V..
Together with the school principal, Judy Nyambura, and project coordinator James Njuguna, we are working to ensure that the school can continue to offer children in Ruiru both an education and a warm meal every day, as Shule ya Kesho – the School of the Future.
Since 2009, we have been in close contact with St. Augustine Preparatory School and its principal, Judy Nyambura. The project began as a personal initiative and has now grown into a local association that provides good educational opportunities for the poorest children, laying the foundation for a chance in life.
We at Shule ya Kesho e.V. are people who have lived in Nairobi, Kenya, and have come to love the country and its people.
