Support for Senegal
Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and spare parts for Senegal
Project Overview
We are working with local partners to improve the living conditions of people with physical disabilities in the Casamance region. This particularly includes collecting aids and spare parts, which we send to Senegal. On-site, we are setting up a workshop and creating jobs, where we pass on the knowledge of how to maintain and distribute these aids.
Funding goals
-
Stage 1:
12.000 CHF
100% funded
With CHF 12'000, we will finance the first container to fill it with our collected aids, as well as the transport of this container to our plot of land in Ziguinchor, in the south of Senegal.
-
Stage 2:
22.000 CHF
8% funded
With CHF 22'000 we can establish the first simple repair workshop and pay for the initial jobs, including modest wages. These positions will be filled by local people with physical disabilities, whom we have trained.
-
Stage 3:
33.000 CHF
0% funded
With CHF 33'000 the expansion of infrastructure, such as sanitary facilities and extension of the workshops, is funded.
-
Finish Stage:
45.000 CHF
0% funded
With CHF 45'000, the first important milestones for this project are established, and the operating costs for approximately one year are covered.
Such situations are part of everyday life for many people in Casamance, in the south of Senegal.
There is no disability insurance or health insurance that sufficiently supports those affected, to help them obtain an appropriate wheelchair or other aid, have enough food, or pay medical bills.
For those who are fortunate enough to own a wheelchair usually lack the opportunity or the means to maintain or repair it when necessary.
The wear and tear on these aids is enormous due to the infrastructural conditions and the climate.
This is why we, together with our local partners, are passionately committed to improving the living conditions of people with physical disabilities.
With your initiative and commitment, you enable us to realize this projekt in a timely manner.
In Senegal, we have built a strong network.
Additionally, we have secured a piece of land where we can bring our project to life.
Our vision for the future:
With Jokko Casamance, we aim to create a center where people with disabilities can not only receive aids but also be advised, supported, and accompanied in finding individual solutions to create job opportunities and sources of income.
Our association, Jokko Casamance, supports people with physical disabilities and their families in Senegal, particularly in the Casamance/Ziguinchor region.
I work here in Switzerland with people who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities, and I have a special connection to Senegal. Every day, I witness how much support people with disabilities receive here. However, the situation in Senegal is very different.
If we can make a small contribution through our project to redistribute the necessary resources, it would be a benefit for everyone.
I am closely involved with our project and am on-site in Senegal about every two months.
When Mirjam told me about her project, I was immediately enthusiastic and offered my support.
In my daily work, I encounter people with physical and cognitive disabilities and see how urgently help is needed in Senegal compared to Switzerland.
I have been working with people who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities for several years. Through this work, I have repeatedly experienced the significant impact that assistive devices can have on quality of life. That's why this project is particularly close to my heart!
I have been working for several years with people who have cognitive and/or multiple physical disabilities. Throughout this work, I have repeatedly experienced the significant impact that assistive devices can have on quality of life. This is why I am so passionate about this project!
The Jokko Casamance project is managed, developed, and implemented with a great deal of love and dedication. The compassion that drives a person to create such a project touches me deeply and is the main reason why I support this association.
