Support LGBTIQ athletes!
Let's help them get to EuroGames Bern 2023
Project Overview
Europe's biggest LGBTIQ sporting event will take place next summer from 26 to 29 July 2023 in Bern. However, not all athletes can afford to travel to Switzerland and participate in the event. Some have less financial means, others come from countries which discriminate LGBTIQ people. Our Outreach programm aims to cover travel expenses as well as participation fees for these atheltes. As a non-profit organisation we need your support!
Funding goals
-
Stage 1:
10.000 CHF
100% funded
The first 10000 CHF will enable 20 athletes with less financial means to travel to Switzerland and to participate in EuroGames 2023. Let's keep on going!
-
Stage 2:
20.000 CHF
100% funded
Yay! The additional 10000 means we have reached our goal by 66% and can support a total of 40 athletes!
-
Finish Stage:
30.000 CHF
102% funded
We made it! We reached our goal and can make it possible for least 60 athletes from less privileged countries to travel to Bern and participate in EuroGames.
The outreach programme strives to reduce such obstacles in order to make a trip to Bern possible. It not only strengthens the goal of inclusion at EuroGames 2023, but also enables athletes from all over Europe to experience a safe environment to participate in sports, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, cultural or religious background. The outreach programme is primarily aimed at people living in European countries where the LGBTIQ community have less rights and experience discrimination. For these athletes, participation in the EuroGames 2023 is not available as it is to people in more privileged countries.
The outreach programme in detail: eurogames2023.ch
The outreach programme is limited to on-site support in Bern, as well as travel to and from the event, including all related formalities.
Everybody can apply to the outreach programme by filling out an application available on our website. The applicant must document their request for application. The application must also explain in which areas support is needed.
As the funds for the outreach programme are limited, there are clearly defined criteria for the application process.
1. people living in European countries without (or with limited) LGBTIQ rights, such as countries in Eastern or Southeastern Europe. We will refer to the Rainbow Europe Map 2021 as an indicator.
2. people whose country of origin is as above, but who are not currently residing there and who may face financial difficulties or discrimination due to their situation.
3. people from a European country of origin who cannot afford to participate because of their financial situation.
4. people outside Europe who live in a country without (or with limited) LGBTIQ rights.
Based on the criteria mentioned above a diverse committee will assess the applications and decide the scope of support granted to each athlete.
From 26 to 29 July 2023 Bern will be hosting EuroGames 2023. It's Europe's biggest LGBTIQ sporting event celebrating diversity in sexual orientation, sex characteristics and gender identity. Our main goal is to provide a safe space for everyone to come together and play sports. EuroGames are primarily geared towards LGBTIQ athletes (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer), but are open to everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age and skill level.
I am actively involved when it comes to issues concerning the LGBTIQ community. As head of volunteers for EuroGames, I am also very proud to be co-responsible of our outreach programme.
Together with Andy I am working on the outreach programme for EuroGames Bern 2023. We hope to make it possible for many LGBTIQ athletes from less privileged countries to travel to Bern and compete in the games.
