The first cancer diagnosis 20 years ago was a shock.
Angiolina Berardelli had to deal with it for the first time at the age of 40 - a journey with many open questions and an unknown outcome.
However, the idea of launching her own wig label came at the age of 50, when she struggled with her second cancer diagnosis. Through chemotherapy at the time, she lost all of her hair.
"It was difficult to find a suitable wig." said Angiolina and she had also missed extensive personal care. Most suppliers in Switzerland sell the same selection of German brands.
Her eldest sister started producing tubular scarfs. She had also been diagnosed with breast cancer years earlier and it was very important to her to find a way for Angiolina to make her feel a little better with her "bald" head.
Her extensive personal experience with breast cancer gave Angiolina the idea of «caphat design».
In 2015 she decided to develop her own brand.
Because she has been a hairdresser for many years and her personal experience in dealing with cancer, she knows what is important when wearing a wig and is able to provide professional advice on beauty issues to those who are affected. The «caphat design» brand was born out of the desire to offer support and accompaniment, characterized by Angiolina's strength and positive nature.
In search of a production facility that produces the wigs according to her quality requirements, she travelled to China and then to Indonesia. Angiolina offers synthetic hair wigs, not only because the care is much easier, but also because the origin of the hair of real hair wigs cannot be determined and is often traded on unfair terms.
This is not Angiolina's philosophy.
In the end, she found a company in Indonesia with fair employment and the necessary protective measures for the staff.
The first «caphat design» production was launched in October 2016 and she was able to hold her first wigs in her hands in May 2017.
In the event of hair loss due to illness, the disability insurance pays an annual contribution for wigs and headwear of a maximum of 1’500 Swiss francs. The AHV compensation fund covers a maximum of 1’000 Swiss francs in the event of illness due to retirement. Thus Angiolina wants to offer the wigs at a maximum of these prices, so that no additional costs arise for the customers.
In addition to the fairly produced wigs from Indonesia, she sews headwear for children and adolescents, alone or together with other affected women.
In 2018 a new investor came aboard. It was important to him to relieve Angiolina financially. He gave her 100’000 Swiss francs to detach the business from the initial supporter. She committed to paying an annual interest of 2% until his death, which should then cease to apply. Another part of the verbal agreement included the creation of a foundation for children with cancer if the «caphat design» brand should gain profit.
These agreements allowed Angiolina to fully devote herself to the care of countless affected people over a long period of time. So far, many have benefited from it.
Due to the short-term repayment request from the heirs of the investor, the «caphat design» brand can only continue to exist with massive support. The goal of this crowdfunding is to make Angiolina's business financially independent, so that with her enormous expertise and empathetic nature she can help many people with cancer through the process of hair loss.
