A culture and traditions of dance, music and rituals that are rooted deeply in the connection with the create spirit and with „Mother Earth“.
The survival the of Kariri Xocó tribe is at risk: Their lands have been taken away and therefore traditional ways of economic sustainment like hunting and fishing are compromised. They had to find new solutions to sustain themselves. This often involves male adult members to leave the villages for long periods of time and it heavily impacts the social structure of the tribe. On top of this, the so called modern world keeps knocking at their doors with its temptations, ready to swipe off their own identity, as the risk of young people leaving the tribe and losing themselves is high. They also have been fighting for their land for many decades and still they live in a constant fear of losing their land over again. Most of the original land is cleared from the forest and is used for agriculture as well as cattle farming.
Nowadays the Kariri Xocó tribe can't live of the land and they have the need to provide for their whole village. That means to give houses, food and protection to about 4000 original members of the tribe.
They claim to protect the variety and beauty of the forests, rivers, sea and nature in a holistic way. They claim to live in balance and harmony with "Mother Earth", as she has always provided for all members of the tribe.
We have reached the point where we can't look away. If you feel the same way and you want to protect the pureness and beauty of the Kariri Xocó tribe, come and join our matter.
The crowdfunded money will be used for the following projects:
- To create a school for the wise women of the tribe to pass on their knowledge.
- To build a Bapi for our tribe to live their traditions and pass on their spiritual wisdom.
- To buy a van to facilitate the guerreros (young men) to provide for the daily needs of the tribe.
Goal 1: Building an ancient wisdom school
Building a school where the wise women of the tribe can pass on their traditions to the youth. Here they teach them the know-how that they need to create the pottery and beautiful art crafts. This place will have enough space for them to produce their handicrafts to sell them and sustain their daily needs. Overall, this also means to provide for the women, young men and children a place of safety.
Goal 2: Building a Bapi
A bapi is a traditional sacred structure that serves as a place where daily activities and rituals like talking to the ancestors, sitting around the fire, chanting, dancing, singing, sharing stories and legends take place. Everything is sacred in their dimension and this is the way in which knowledge is passed to the next generations. Here is where it is clear that life is a sacred experience that should be honoured.
Goal 3: Buying a van
To optimize their revenues and spread their sacred wisdom they need a van. More guerreros could work temporarily away from the land without long traveling times and stay away shorter periods of time to sustain the community daily needs.
So let's support our beloved tribe in Brasil!!!
