The IACAPAP Challenge Grant Phase II represents a continuation of the previous "IACAPAP Challenge Grant" project, which commenced on May 20th, 2024.
The mission of IACAPAP is to advocate for promoting mental health and developing children and adolescents through policy, practice, and research. The IACAPAP Challenge Grant Phase II aims to raise funds to sustain fellowship programs, offering travel grant support to shortlisted fellows for the Helmut Remschmidt Research Seminar (HRRS) and the Donald J Cohen Fellowship Program (DJCFP) and operating fund to support the Early Career Group development program.
The Donald J Cohen Fellowship Program (the DJCF Program) is a training program for young professionals inaugurated at the 2004 IACAPAP World Congress in Berlin. Its aim is to foster the professional development of emerging leaders in child and adolescent mental health worldwide, with leadership interpreted appropriately for different regions and countries.
The Helmut Remschmidt Research Seminar Program was initiated in 2007, and this is a training program for young mental health professionals, but its specific focus is on enhancing expertise in the area of research relevant to infant, child, adolescent and family mental health. It aims to deepen understanding of the conceptualisation, implementation and interpretation of research in the field and to expand appreciation of how research activity can contribute to improving services internationally.
The Early Career Group (ECG) aims to complement existing IACAPAP activities and initiatives and provide a large network that would allow early career and trainee child and adolescent psychiatrists and allied professionals to network on a continuous basis, share ideas and experiences and build a foundation for stronger professional networks of international cooperation into the future.
The IACAPAP Challenge Grant, inspired by Prof. Myron Belfer, our Honorary President, aims to raise funds for these vital initiatives. Prof. Belfer has pledged to match every donation, doubling the impact of your generosity.
Although we have set a flexible goal for our fundraising campaign, we have a clear target of raising 22,000 Euro. We achieved 6,189 Euro in the previous campaign, and we believe that we can reach our target. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to making a significant impact.

Prof Carmen Schroder is the current Treasurer of IACAPAP. She is a Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Strasbourg University and head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Strasbourg University Hospitals in France, as well as the coordinator of the Excellence Centre for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders STRAS&ND.
